Magento is an open source eCommerce platform based on PHP. Magento allows businesses to develop online stores. Ebay, the managing company of Magento, recruits programmers from the open source community to create its flexible platform. Magento is built on the Zend Framework (an open source application framework that uses PHP).

Magento was designed to help eCommerce owners develop their business with custom integrations, such as plugins, modules, and extensions. Magento also supports owners to change their store’s theme and help eCommerce businesses customize their storefront.   • Magento Enterprise Edition – Non free version of Magento which includes more features than the free version.
  • Magento Community Edition – Free version of Magento, has less features than the Enterprise edition but is enough for most ecommerce needs.
  • Magento Go – Hosted Magento eCommerce solution, which provides hosting, software and technical support for eCommerce owners to create and manage their online stores.
